Principal Equity Learning Arc
This exte4nsive course ran over 12 sessions from December 2020 to May 2022, a very long term project. The principals of each school
were the participants. Assistant Superintendent Lorene Marx and Humanities Coordinator Kristen Ando were the facilitators.
The syllabus instructs participants to do the “
Pre-work”, which is required for all of these courses.

Each session begins with a list of the objectives of the session, then proceeds to the agenda. Highlights of the Objectives and Agenda Items are:

Sessions 1-2: create a shared definition of NAPS Equity/Anti-racism work
Session 4-5: Deepen your understanding of color blindness, white supremacy and myth of meritocracy
Session 6: Apply your understanding of color blindness, white supremacy and myth of meritocracy to current hiring practices
Examine hypervisibility and how it relates to our school communities
Session 7: To connect individual and group DEI (Diversity Equity and Inclusion) learning explicitly to data cycles and to larger disruption of school and/or district based inequities.

Session 5&6: How does Color Blindness, White Supremacy, the Myth of Meritocracy and Decentering Whiteness relate to hiring opportunities?
Session 6: Have you observed hypervisibility among students of color or indigenous students in your school? How does recognition and scrutiny of them compare to the treatment afforded to White students?
